THE MAGICAL RING
Deep within the woods they dwell:
The mystical Faerie and a ne’er-do-well.
Accompanying them is a will-of-the-wisp
Who is different from most for she has a lisp.
As she ruffles my hair she blows in my ear;
Tickling me out of my shock that he’s here!
He’s a Dragon you see who guards the fey;
Only the pure of heart are invited to stay.
He’s puffed himself up to give me a fright
And I have to admit he’s a terrible sight!
Despite his appearance I refuse to be scared.
I screw up my courage, wait to see how I’ve fared.
That sweet little breeze is insisting I stay
As the Faerie folk gather ready to play.
I’ve obviously earned a grudging reprieve;
And I sigh with relief as I watch him leave.
He settles beneath the Elder of Trees,
Allowing himself to be soothed by that breeze.
I watch with delight as his mask melts away
Replaced by a beauty not seen in the day.
A Dragon? Is that what I thought I had seen?
A horrible sight? So grumpy and mean?
Why he’s really a Golden Ray from the Sun
Sent to light up the night and add to our fun!
Is the gang all here? I don’t think that’s the end
Of the magical beings who now call me friend.
Oh look there’s another drawn to our side;
Some whisper the Golden Ray now has a bride.
A shimmering curtain of Silvery Light
Dances before him in the quiet of night.
She’s a sight to behold, this gift from above;
A symbol of beauty found in true love.
A sweet Enchantress who fills me with awe,
Yet still I am feeling there has to be more.
I patiently watch for the next one to come
As the lovers entwine and the earth starts to hum.
The Breeze plays with the leaves as trees join in the dance
And I watch on with wonder as Unicorns prance.
They couldn’t resist the Call of the Wild
And laughter rings out from this human child.
As one the faerie folk now start to sing
And the woods are encircled in a magical ring.
