THE GIFT OF INNOCENCE

written when my grandson Christopher was born 🙂
Wishes are granted almost every day
Our needs are met in every way.
The trouble with us is we often don’t see
The gifts we are given and then let it be.

In one glorious act life reminds you to smile,
It’s nice to meet one who has no true guile.
I stare into his eyes with wonder and joy …
He’s a sight to behold, this beautiful boy!

Another to add to my list of heart-throbs,
I don’t even mind when his smiles turn to sobs.
My only thought is to please him you see,
So each time I visit he’ll want to see me.

Oh sweet surrender, I’m lost in his love,
With fervour I thank the Ones from above.
In a world overflowing with rage, pain and tears;
His birth brings new hope and melts away fears.

He may not bring me material gain
But his presence has power to heal my pain.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d love money to burn,
But I’d much rather simple pleasures return.

Too long we’ve chased the Gods of our day;
In our push to be wealthy- forgot how to play.
The birth of our children helps us stay sane…
Reminds us to laugh and be carefree again.
