My journey through the Murray Valley begun….
Hi I promised you I would finish with another post the story I had begun.. well here it is 🙂 I left Echuca around three in the afternoon, longing for a peaceful place to camp that night and just be, not that I did not love the total mayhem of Echuca; it was filled with friendly, happy people so no dramas there. I just needed some me time to think and even plan maybe.
I knew I could go back the next day if I wanted to so why not take a break? I followed the directions out…bloody GPS lol.. it kept taking me on hairy roads that led to hairier camp places. So called beaches? Hmmm not sure why so many campsites in a national park/regional park are called beaches, not one in sight lol.. anyway just as I was about to admit defeat I fluked the right road. It said two and a half kilometres of dirt to my objective. Well the road was not too bad at first but got worse the further in I went. I pulled up near but not too near some other campers; that way I would have some form of safety net should any weirdos happen out there but also both they and I would have our privacy. I let Alex off and we walked further up the track, taking his beloved ball with us. I was not too sure he would stick around as he is unproven in this regard if something went running through the bush. It didn’t and he did stick around, in seventh heaven chasing that ball over and over as we wandered further along the Murray lol… we must have played for around an hour all up before I put the ball back into my bag and we headed back to our home on wheels.
The night was divine …clear skies, such a stillness I cannot describe and us. I slept really well that night and the next morning as I opened the door to let my boy out, my eyes were greeted by a beautiful sunrise just beginning. I grabbed the camera and took a picture of the reflection of the sunrise, along with the trees on the riverbank, in the Murray. So beautiful, it took my breath away. I didnt really want to leave so I stayed another night, going back into Echuca the next day. I parked at the same place but this time we didn’t do much venturing into the main part of town nor the port. Alex and I stayed around the lake and played, retreating to the motorhome to grab the snags and the makings of a salad before cooking on the barbecue provided. Oh it was lovely, playing picnics all day LOL.. and watching as others did the same. That afternoon I thought I should get back on the road, aiming for Tathra… for some reason my GPS sent me once again in the wrong direction and this time I found myself halfway to Deniliquin. I did a u turn, took the advice of the council worker I bailed up lol and headed to Barham. It is apparently supposed to take me back onto the Murray Valley Highway.
I have not seen any sign of it to be honest though I did venture past just in case. I came back to Barham as it was getting late and here I sit. I love it! It is peaceful and pretty. I took the time to fill the water tank and do my washing. Now its all dry I think I will spend another night before heading back to Echuca and meeting up with the Murray Valley Highway. I’ve a festival I have booked into for easter in the pipeline but no hurry to get there. I think I will continue to meander my way along the Murray in the meantime 🙂 ….
