LIZARD DREAMING

LIZARD DREAMING

A woman filled with questions on how her life should be,
Roams the cobbled path between the bushes and the sea.
Along the way she sees a lizard basking in the sun.
She halts in sheer amazement; he’s already on the run!

He’s watching from the bushes that stick out to her right.
She wishes he had stayed with her instead of run in fright.
A love of all the creatures that share this hallowed place
Is what draws her to its headland with a smile upon her face.

She continues on her way this day, her eyes upon the view;
But her mind is filled with turmoil as she wonders what is true.
Do we always need to watch our backs so we won’t feel the pain
Of betrayal by the ones we love if we open up again.

The path becomes a favourite place for her to spend free time;
She feels so peaceful here and the scenery’s sublime.
A week or more has passed since she saw the lizard here,
Though he isn’t in the open she senses he’s still near.

One sunny day she rounds the bend and almost jumps in fright;
He’s here again but stands his ground, he knows he’ll be alright.
She wonders what he wants from her, to stay or to retreat;
Does he want her to leave this place or merely take a seat?

No bench here for her comfort but the rocks will serve her well
As she sits down and waits for him to come out of his shell.
He’s a mighty water dragon and his stance is really fierce;
But his eyes are wise and gentle and he’s bringing her to tears.

She knows he sees her soul and her love for all his kind,
She feels him probing deeper; she doesn’t really mind.
It seems to her he has a message that she needs to hear
And he watches her with interest as gently she draws near.

From nowhere comes an urge to sing her favourite song,
She wonders if he’ll like it or if her feeling is all wrong!
To her delight he cocks his head and turns his body round,
No thought of running anywhere, he’s listening to the sound!

Her heart feels light and joyful as she finishes her song;
With a nod he moves away and invites her to walk on.
She’s made a friend who cherishes the beauty in her heart;
A gift from Mother Nature of which we’re all a part.

He’s there most days to greet her as she walks back from the sea,
Communing once again with her beneath her favourite tree.
Though he runs away when others come around that bend,
He never fails to say g’day to his gentle friend.

She’s daring now to live her dreams, allow herself the right
To open up her heart and stand within the light.
She’s worthy of the kind of man whose warm instead of cold,
To live her life in joy and trust, as the lizard had foretold.
