whew what a trip through Sydney lol
Yep, here I again folk. I could get addicted to this… both the travel and the blogging lol. I made it through Sydney! Now thats a trip. First though I want to share our time at The Tea Gardens yesterday. You know already I planned to sit under that big old tree while I waited for the heat of the day to dissipate right? Wrong! As I was getting ready to do just that, I noticed a big Lace Monitor ambling his way over towards me. Now anyone who knows me knows that I have a bit of a history with these beings lol. They always want what I want and because they have big sharp claws and a rather painful bite, I let them have it. After all discretion is sometimes the better part of valour lol.
Well I closed the door to the motorhome to keep Alex away as I knew if it came to a showdown, this boy of mine had no chance… besides I did not fancy a hitchhiker lol and he looked determined to come in! I sat and watched from the safety of my little table as he continued ambling my way. He scared off the kids in the park too lol AND their parents! He decided to come out, probably felt a bit dejected they didnt stay to play. As he was wandering back the way he came and I prepared to let Alex out, he did an unexpected u turn. Now he was headed for the tree again! Damn!! Well I had no idea what had caught his attention though I suspected. There is usually only two reasons a Lace Monitor goes up a tree; either he is scared and looking for sanctuary or there is a tasty feed of eggs on offer. Out of the skies swooped an obvious pair of mating native Myna birds… defending their nests, I thought in admiration! Here was I cowering in the safety of my van while these small creatures took on the rather large Lace Monitor, claws and all!
He stood stock still as I frantically looked for the camera muggins here left at home :s … anyway back to the real stars of this show … the Mynas not only took him on as he froze with one paw on the bottom of the trunk, they won! He, like me, obviously felt discretion WAS the better part of valour and ran, not walked, back the way he came. Well I like to think he found an easier meal elsewhere. As for me I felt thoroughly entertained by my fellow earth travellers and grinned all the way through my preparations to go to the beach.
I played with Alex on a beautiful, pristine part of our world for awhile and then took it into my head to find a tap in town to fill up my water tank as it was now getting very low. Hmmm .. one warning for anyone travelling down this way… after fruitless searching on foot (though the river walk was divinely beautiful) I finally found a tap at the garage… oh will have to finish this later as the rain is pouring down and I am sitting at a lovely picnic table whose cover won’t really cut it I’m afraid.. more to come
