Just a thought I had this morning on the importance of learning to read and write…

Gday! Been a little since I have felt like blogging, but this morning as I was waking ever so gently from my slumber, I wondered what all those years spent in a school had really done for my and other children’s lives. You know I am a major lover of all things natural and being stuck in a school room while some teacher tries valliantly to cram the three R’s down your reluctant child’s throat, when you could be out playing in the sun and learning through nature seemed to me a major waste of time.

Funnily enough, though I would wish that classes could be conducted somewhere in the fresh air near the ocean or the forest, I came to the conclusion that being able to express through the written word is a treasure not to be undervalued! Through my poetry, on a personal level, the ability to express this way not only enables me to share all those experiences that have given my life meaning… well not all, some are too deep for that yet…has given me both joy and a sense of acceptance where needed through observing them in a more detached way once I have written them down. No amount of ‘mind white noise’ can give you that clarity I feel.

For those who write stories, I am very sure it is the same outcome. For those reading them, it has the power to give a sense of belonging, rather than feeling isolated and ‘out of step’, depending on the context of that which they are reading… it can also take one down a path of magic, wonder, love and laughter.. bringing one our of the everyday worries or disappointments, bringing hope and a renewed sense of how precious life is! What do you think?
