touching base as I continue to find my feet….
gday gday!
I have just spent a lovely few days with my sister from up north, her ex partner turned friend, her beautiful youngest daughter and her daughter’s soul mate 🙂 What a lovely way to take the time to regenerate! The icing on the cake is that it all happened in Hat Head, a place beloved by all my family, well most of them lol…and a place where my father spent the last part of his life. He credited it with keeping him alive so much longer than he or his doctors expected, along with bringing him a sense of peace in a place where his father had lived also. Its funny to be sitting in your motorhome in the driveway of a holiday home and reminiscing about days gone by. I could just imagine my dad smiling down upon me indulgently and musing how his ‘gypsy daughter’ had at last found her feet in a world she continues to be baffled by.
This place is one of healing for us all. I no longer feel my dad here though. I sense him at times when I most need his guidance and feel that he is here for me now in a way that he felt he couldn’t be in my past. Each morning as I walked Alex from town to the Gap and back again, I found myself musing on my life but in a detached way as opposed to the anxious woman of a week ago. I could feel the presence of faith and joy shining through every part of the nature to be found here. On the second day I encountered a magnificent Sea Eagle fraternising on the ground with a couple of wattle birds and a magpie as I rounded the bend on the track to the Gap! I gasped with surprised pleasure as they all turned to take in the sight of this human and her furry companion. They didn’t continue their communion as we got closer sadly but the sheer enjoyment offered by happening on their company was enough to bring a permanent glow to my day. Alex and I continued on our way to the Gap, a slither here and a rustle there all adding to the mix lol… I admit I did jump once or twice, knowing that this warm weather brings out the snakes in the early morn lol… nope didn’t run across any though I am sure the echo of our footsteps as we wended our way up would have been enough to warn them, sending them scattering to safer ground lol.
I do not feel my dad at the Gap particularly anymore either, though I felt his presence all around me as we walked and I mused. I found my energies calming slowly but surely as I took my walk with Alex. When we reached the top I didn’t tarry long. It was already hot and Alex and I had completed almost four kilometres together. He needed some water and as he is black, I tend to be very aware of how quickly he can overheat in the sun. We were unable to continue further because dogs are not allowed in the national parks but that was ok. I did not need to enter in order to be in communion with nature, it came to me lol….
On our way back (about five minutes into our walk), as I allowed my thoughts to wander once again, I was jolted out of my reverie by the thumping of two big grey kangaroos emerging between the houses to my left. I stopped, commanding Alex to sit, and stared in amazement.. and three pairs of eyes gazed impassively back as they too stood stock still and we all held our breath LOL.. yep, the one in front had a joey in her pouch. I would say the little one was around three months old judging by its size.
We stood this way for several minutes as I regretted leaving my cameras at home on this most special morning, only moving on when interrupted by two other walkers. I felt that it was nature’s way of reassuring and nurturing me and I thought to myself that I had really come home to Hat Head to heal. A bonus for me was that I found a place where I could free camp at any time right next to a dog friendly beach… yayyyyyyyyyy Alex and I will love quietly playing on the beach next time I float by … such a gift!
I truly enjoyed seeing family again that I had not seen in so long and one that offered so many great ideas for getting my business off the ground. Thanks guys, you rock xxx As always I am looked after and led as I remember to listen lol…
Now I am sitting in Kempsey Showground and continuing my ‘time out’… I am not going back to Coffs before the weekend finishes as the World Rally is on and it will be a little manic LOL… besides part of the joy of motorhoming is being able to float in and out, be light like the butterflies I have always delighted in meeting ….
I hope you all have had as lovely a week as I have and are finding the doors opening easily to your future as mine are.. blessed be
