DEATH OF WISDOM

Death come gently, sweet thief in the night.
My soul is now ready to go to the Light.
I’ve given my all to the children of Earth,
Including my vision of what has true worth.

In these modern times I’m a thing of the past,
The way people see it, nothing can last!
It shows in the way they rush through their life,
Creating confusion, hardship and strife.

“Who cares for the morrow…Let’s live for today!
Why think of the harm we may wreak on the way?
The children won’t suffer, they’re too young to feel
Their memory’s short, what’s the big deal?”

I’ve been put out to pasture like most of my friends,
Plastic Beauty and Youth the newest of trends.
Who needs honour or morals to really succeed?
You’ll only get trampled if you follow a creed.

So now I go willingly towards my demise,
I cannot live in a world built on lies.
Who am I? You ask, should I care what you say? …
Why I’m your elders, the wise ones, hidden away.
