A CRY FOR SURVIVAL

dedicated to the Wild Cats of Earth

Silently making his way through the jungle
in search of the meal he needs to bring down.
Never a thought of tasting these humans
as he prowls around the outskirts of town.

It’s funny how when we think of these creatures,
we don’t understand why they seek prey so near.
If we were to be honest in our way of thinking,
we’d acknowledge how we take more every year.

Not happy with being a part of the wilderness,
through fear we continue to build on their land.
Unable to dwell anymore within nature, we’re
now forced to hide in these caves made by man.

These beautiful animals don’t kill for pleasure,
it seems we’re the only ones needing this thrill.
For food and survival when there’s no way out,
only then will they seek to maim or to kill.

This week man discovered one of these creatures
who’d lived a long life in the forests near here.
It’s obvious how its avoided this contact
yet they’ll hunt it down in ignorant fear.

Please tell me why we can’t just admire
the beauty and power that was put on our earth.
If we could just learn to live with each other,
I know all of nature would have a rebirth.
